Almora Chair

The Almora chair by designers Doshi and Levien for B&B Italia is dedicated to relaxation. The headrest is a curved piece of oak wood, padded on the inside that stems outwardly from the backrest. It is a chair that stands out for the balanced composition of the various elements, materials, and leather upholstery – with the option of merino wool for the headrest. The overlapping structures of the seat, back, and head are held together by an invisible mechanism. An ottoman serves as a footrest, with a round base and a curved wooden upholstered seat. The Almora chair bears the name of the Indian region with breathtaking views of the Himalayas and aspires to be, according to the designers, “a refuge from the world, a place to contemplate and read.” This revolving chair is composed of two conical plastic shell: a seat that joins the base and a backrest. The headrest is a curved piece of oak wood, padded on the inside that stems outwardly from the backrest.

A design studio based in London, Doshi & Levien is the brainchild of Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, who have been collaborating together for over 10 years. With influences of visual culture and industrial precision, their work in furniture design is a blend of modern and Indian heritage. With rich textiles and architectural structure as inspiration, their furniture plays with material and pattern. Together they have collaborated with Moroso, Kvadrat, B&B Italia, Cappellini, Camper, Swarovski and Galerie Kreo. They create unique and modern pieces that work in many design aesthetics.
