Bend Sofa System
Patricia Urquiola’s Bend sofa for B&B Italia challenges preconceived notions of what we think a sofa is and delivers a soft undulating sculptural seating plateau – a coveted object of desire that is extraordinary in every sense.
Urquiola designed a number of different Bend sofa modular elements that provide seemingly endless configurations for the ways in which you would like the Bend sofa to function within your interior. In her own words, Urquiola’s concept for the seating system was “a primary, monolithic shape which gives the impression of having been sculpted by hand.” Each shape appears irregular and faceted as if it were indeed hand-formed – a seemingly random integrated assemblage of contoured, canted, stepped, angled, and curved elements within each ‘seating block.’ Her exploration of the horizontal seating plane is provocative – ‘topographically’ treated as if it were a ‘seating landscape’ riddled with gentle gradients that rise and dip on its surface. These gradients are exquisitely ‘mapped’ by the horizontal and vertical contrast stitching of the upholstery.
All Bend sofa elements are composed of steel internal frames with Bayfit (Bayer) flexible cold-shaped polyurethane foam with a polyester cover. The underside feet of all elements are thermoplastic. Bend sofa is available in a number of modular configurations with a choice of numerous upholstery options in both textiles and leather.
