Given the popularity of Papilio since its introduction in 2009, a burgeoning collection of new pieces that employ the same form in different scales and sizes has developed. Mini Papilio was introduced as a dining/side chair version in 2012 – like its cousins, Mini Papilio features an extraordinarily sculptural and sensuous form with a gently scooped seat; its integrated and outwardly canted back arches at the top to create an enveloping backrest for the sitter. The discreet addition of a disc base on Papilio’s underside allows the user to swivel when sitting in the chair. Its removable cover features a vertical zipper in the back of the chair that runs from the base to the top edge of the backrest – its clever placement coupled with the associated textural juxtaposition of its stainless composition with the upholstery is wonderfully engaging.
Referring to his original Papilio lounge chair design, Naoto Fukasawa remarked that “I wanted this kind of chair to look obviously comfortable; to have the kind of shape that ‘relaxation’ might take if it were portrayed in a picture. There had to be something encompassing.”
Mini Papilio features a steel internal frame with Bayfit (Bayer) flexible cold-shaped polyurethane foam with polyester padding. The underside swivel base is composed of gray painted steel laminate and aluminum extrusion. Mini Papilio is available with numerous upholstery cover options; please inquire with us to review both textile and leather options along with associated pricing.
