Philipp Mainzer’s Stop bookend is part of a collection of e15 accessories that made their debut in early 2014. Already much celebrated for its furniture designs in solid wood, e15 was eager to expand its offerings with objects of a smaller scale in various materials that feature the similar attention to aesthetics and workmanship.
Constructed from the finest Italian marble, the Stop bookend is elegant, luxe, modern, minimalist, and… given its size… an infinitely manageable monolith. The Stop bookend is available in two heights – a small cube as well as a taller rectilinear version. Each size is available in either Bianco Carrara (white) or Nero Marquina (black) – either matte-oiled marble color sports exquisite natural veining. Each size has the same footprint which enables wonderful synergy when used together or within a group.
While the inherent weight of the marble used in the Stop bookend makes it ideal for use on a shelf for holding books upright, it is also simply a beautiful, engaging sculptural form that will continue to visually delight on any surface where it is ultimately placed.
Born in Germany, Philipp Mainzer studied product design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and architecture at the Architectural Association both in London. Having established the progressive, enduring philosophy and unique branding of e15, he has received international awards for many of his designs, which are identifying icons for e15 and part of several permanent exhibitions in museums. Parallel to the creation of e15, Philipp Mainzer practiced architecture in New York and continues to do so since his return to Germany in 2001. He is a member of the executive committee of German Design Council and regularly gives lectures on architecture, design, and branding.
