Pierre Jeanneret

Born in Geneva in 1896, Pierre Jean­neret was a forward-think­ing modernist who spent much of his career working in collab­o­ra­tion with his cousin, Le Corbusier. Jean­neret is known for his archi­tec­ture, urban plan­ning, and furni­ture designs. After spend­ing 1916 – 1918 in the Swiss Army and study­ing at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, he opened an archi­tec­ture prac­tice with Le Corbusier in 1922. Together they designed archi­tec­tural spaces and furni­ture pieces for over 20 years. Their collab­o­ra­tion took a hiatus when Jean­neret joined the French Resis­tance and Le Corbusier did not. One of their largest collab­o­ra­tion pieces is urban plan­ning and archi­tec­ture for the city of Chandi­garh, India. The high­light of which is his design of 14 differ­ent types of mass housing for the city. His furni­ture design pieces are mini­mal­ist in style, and his most noted is a chair that requires no fasteners.
