Aldo van den Nieuwelaar

Born in 1944, Aldo van den Nieuwe­laar is a Dutch designer and archi­tect. He founded his own studio in 1969 and spent his career design­ing furni­ture, light fixtures, light sculp­tures, and archi­tec­ture. His work is known for its simplic­ity and clarity of form, Van den Nieuwelaar’s iconic work is in his sculp­tural fluo­res­cent light­ing, which often featured curved steel tubes in white and chrome and geomet­ric fluo­res­cent tubes. One example is the TC6, a square box with a circu­lar fluo­res­cent tube. In 1973, van den Nieuwe­laar collab­o­rated with Pastoe to create a series of narrow cabi­nets with shutter doors. His award-winning designs are exhib­ited in museums through­out the Nether­lands as well as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
