Hannes Wettstein
Switzerland (1958–2008)
As an industrial and interior designer, Hannes Wettstein used uncomplicated forms and a structural approach to every project. Born in 1958 in Ascona, Switzerland, Wettstein spent the first few years of his career as a draftsperson. He began shifting his work to furniture and product design, through collaborations with various manufacturers. This includes his design for the Metro lighting system in 1982 for Belux, the Juliette stacking chair for Baleri, the Globe Sofa for Cassina, the Vela Collection for Accademia, as well as his pieces Alfa and Wave for Molteni. In 1991 he founded his international agency, Hannes Wettstein AG, where he focused on creating objects along with interior spaces. His interior work includes the Swiss Embassy in New York City and the retail area of the Frankfurt Airport.
