or Call to Order

Catalano and Marelli’s Cannot Side Table is a fabulous fin de siècle pastiche of two iconic designs – Eileen Gray’s 1027 Bedside Table (1927) and Marcel Breuer’s Laccio Tables (1925). Like both Bauhaus designs, Cannot also features a frame in tubular steel – essentially a round footprint base that is echoed by a top of the same size. The base of the Cannot Side Table supports the top with the addition of two integrated tubular steel supports. Like the original production Laccio Tables, Cannot Side Table’s top is composed of lacquered wood. With the top and base diameters being the same, Cannot Side Table creates the illusion of the base functioning almost like the shadow of an aura” or halo” having been cast by the top.

Both designers graduated in Architecture and Industrial Design, and have worked since 1999 in product design, communication and interior design fields. Michela Catalano took part in several competitions and worked in Italy and in Chile, along with being a consultant in the Cappellini research and development department. Ilaria Marelli specialized as sound designer and took part in photography competitions; she cooperates with the Politecnico of Milan teaching industrial and environmental design. Nowadays she works with Nemo, Zanotta, Bosa Ceramiche.

Cannot Side Table is composed of satin finish tubular stainless steel and a top in matte or polished finish lacquer that is available in multiple color options.
