Le Bambole Three-Seater Sofa x Stella McCartney

c. 2022

by Mario Bellini , Stella McCartney
for B&B Italia

B&B Italia launches the Le Bambole Three-Seater Sofa featuring a hand-drawn Fungi Forest” print upholstery pulled from the Stella McCartney Summer 2022 runway collection. This special edition marks the first collaboration between fashion and furniture for both brands.

The partnership was inspired by Stella’s long-time passion for Mario Bellini’s works as well as a shared interest in responsible construction and sustainability between brands. The sofa can be fully disassembled for potential recycling and repurposing at the end of its life — part of a larger mission to promote long-lasting products as the future of furniture.

Mario Bellini

Italy

Mario Bellini is one of Italy’s most renowned design talents. As an architect, he has designed structures around the world, such as the Tokyo Design Centre, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Milan Convention Centre. His illustrious oeuvre also moves far beyond architecture—he’s a skilled industrial designer, urban planner, and furniture designer who has influenced all corners of the industry.

Bellini began his foray into the design world as an architect in the 1960’s, and by 1963 he started to incorporate furniture and product design into his work. For nearly three decades, Bellini was the chief design consultant for Olivetti, where he created product designs for typewriters, portable calculators, and early computer consoles. Bellini’s masterful understanding of form became evident in both his product and furniture work. Many of the bestselling designs from his early career, such as Le Bambole seating line for B&B Italia and the Cab chair for Cassina, continue to be produced.

With over 25 pieces of his industrial design in their permanent collection, MoMA celebrated Bellini’s contribution to the design world with a 1987 retrospective of his work.

Stella McCartney

England (1971)

Stella McCartney was born in London to a family of legendary creators but made a name for herself as one of the world's leading fashion designers. Early on, she was recognized for sharp tailoring, bold aesthetics, and masculine energy in womenswear and found success as the Creative Director of Chloe. However, she is primarily known for her eponymous luxury fashion house, which launched in 2001.

As an animal rights activist and lifelong vegetarian, McCartney established the brand with designs free of leather or feathers – a revolutionary stance, then and now. The brand has continued to grow with a commitment to being ethical and modern - constantly innovating new ways to become more sustainable, including partnerships with brands like B&B Italia. From design to store practices and product manufacturing, the fashion house emboldens confident femininity with elevated yet effortless, conscious fashion.
