The Jack bookcase is the result of the first collaboration between B&B Italia and Michael Anastassiades. Known for his skills in working with light, the Cypriot designer has designed a modular bookcase system with a striking degree of technological perfection. In its search for the creation of an innovative language, this design challenge revisits and modernizes a design classic, the 1950’s room center bookcase, transforming it into a compliment with a clean, essential yet architectural structure. The genius of the piece lies in concealing the engineered supports, including those holding up the laminated shelves, inside the vertical elements with a rounded section made of extruded aluminum and integrated by an exclusive, totally-invisible, floor-ceiling telescopic adjustment system.

The system is available in 14 heights, ranging from 86 – 1/2″ to 127 – 1/2″ and taking in all measurements in-between, while the shelves are in two lengths, 29 – 1/2″ and 35 – 1/2″ both 12″ deep. Two are the finishes provided for the vertical elements and shelves for single-color solutions, chalk white and black, both matte.

Michael Anastassiades

Cyprus

Born in Cyprus, London-based designer Michael Anastassiades is known for creating furniture, lighting, and accessories that merge stark forms with interesting, eye-catching details. His popular lighting designs often incorporate simple shapes like cylinders, spheres, and tubes elevated by the addition of mirrors, crystal, and polished metal. His work is fundamentally clean-lined, functional, and easy to comprehend, making it suitable for countless interior arrangements. At the same time, his designs’ beautiful lines and clever compositions make them stand out as works of art. Products like his IC Lights collection for FLOS, inspired by the movement of a contact juggler, demonstrate Anastassiades’s ability to create exceptional designs from the most seemingly simple foundations.

After studying civil engineering and industrial design in London, Anastassiades launched his eponymous studio in 1994. Since then, he’s collaborated with leading design houses, such as FLOS, Lobmeyr, Svenskt Tenn, and Herman Miller, as well as cultural tastemakers across the artistic spectrum, such as fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, Paris boutique Colette, architects David Chipperfield and John Pawson, and interior design firm Studio Isle. In 2007, he established Michael Anastassiades Ltd. to produce his own signature pieces.
